Didn't know it came with a PDF Verified Purchase

I bought it because my boyfriend's online friend recommended it and I appreciated the whimsicality and interestingness of the game setting. I was a bit bummed that it said it was gonna be a 2-6 week shipping process, and then I checked my email and saw that I got an itch.io link to a few PDFs, one of the book I bought, one of a different edition, and some other cool stuff. This got me so excited, and we ran a silly little adventure that night with the rules from the book. Making characters is a blast, and the customizability of the rules is a treat. Simply outstanding. Def looking at new expansions to get in the future.

Magnificent, Truly Scrumptious

Troika! is truly something. It's a love letter to that part of my brain where magic and adventure in strange worlds still felt new -- and it this is just such an experience. You get dozens of premade characters to roll for and very elegant and straightforward rules. The artwork is divine: like this found item from another realm -- it's alien, it's beautiful and ugly at once, great and terrible like Galadriel's power. Some of the images follow me around: fanciful daydreams of another time and place. Kudos! It's fun to play and a delight to thumb through.

Wonderful and Whimsical

I love pretty much everything about this eccentric little book. The art is so distinct and cool, and alongside it all the elements add up to frankly exhilarating amounts of weird whimsy; the plethora of bizarre character classes, the simple and fast paced rules centred around d6, the wild token-based initiative system - it's all so fun.

For me, I hoped the system would do two things. Firstly, give me a breath of fresh air away from the dragon-shaped shadow looming menacingly over the TTRPG space, and, secondly, let me introduce new players to the hobby in a quick and fun way. I've ran the starting adventure twice now (two different parties of three) and can say it performs admirably at both. It doesn't get bogged down in rules or restrictions, it's pacey (SO QUICK to jump in and play - helping three brand new players each roll characters took me about 6 mins), and it doesn't take itself at all seriously. This last note is, I think, a big factor in why those I was playing with bought in so fast: it's so ostentatiously silly that they knew they could just relax and have fun.

I definitely recommend it.

A Wonderful RPG

Troika! is a wonderful book, and well worth whatever wait it takes to receive if you have to do international shipping. On the material side of thing, the book feels nice to hold, it’s well made, and it fits nicely on your shelf. The game itself is a true delight. The rules are free online and well worth a look, I did so and immediately had to purchase a copy for myself. Characters are fun, with options ranging from a run-of-the-mill burglar to a Beefcake eating Beefsteaks who will carry around a griddle to cook up some meat. Absolutely delightful. Spells and skills are also superb. This game goes above and beyond to make a weird and fun world, and it succeeds on every account. Buy it now!!! Do it!!!

Everyone should play this

I ran this game for the first time with two players that had never even heard of it and only had limited TTRPG experience. I’m just over two hours we created characters and played a whole adventure. Start up was really easy and the system and rules were really easy to learn. One player wrote this on my groups Discord server,

“ Hey, uh, I don't mean to flex, but that game of Troika last night was awesome! Very reminiscent of the Dungeon Crawl Classic we played. Plenty of action, lots of freedom to interact however you want, and, of course, many slayings. It was a lot of fun. I'd absolutely play it again and even a longer adventure if it made sense. So props to The Mattmann for putting it together and creating a fun experience”.

The other player recommended his family buy the game so they could play together.

I can’t say enough about how fun it was.
