Product Description

Fungi of the Far Realms is a guide to over 200 fantastical mushrooms. Each mushroom is lavishly illustrated in traditional watercolour and annotated by the esteemed fictional mycologist E. Q. Wintergarden, creating a diegetic field guide of such indulgent quality as to put most real world examples to shame.

The book is system agnostic, with a mild preference towards your typical fantasy RPG, but is robust enough for most uses you could think of. The majority of the book is the titular guide book "Fungi of the Far Realms" and the rest is mechanical assistance in using these mushrooms in your home games.

Reviews and related media

'I love the singular focus and commitment to an idea that Fungi of the Far Realms offers. It raises eyebrows and confuses people. It looks and feels like an esoteric book you find at an estate sale or in the nether reaches of a second-hand book store, where you pick it up and wonder why it even exists. But beyond novelty, there is solid usability here. It’s one of the most unique RPG tomes  I own, and I treasure it for that.'

- There Will Be Games

'A perfect book I will cherish for all my living years.'

'This is about the most brilliant supplement for TTRPGs that I have ever seen.'

- Goodreads reader reviews

If it wasn’t clear from the above this thing is amazing, both as a book and as an object. From a functional perspective the amount of content it can inject into your games is frankly astounding, and its gorgeous production makes it a joy just to read and use.

This is perhaps the most sui generis RPG supplement I have ever purchased. The truth is I bought it thinking that it would be something else (my fault) but when I saw that it was a compendium of fantastic mushrooms in the manner of a bestiary, I was disconcerted. However, I have enjoyed it enormously and I think it will add a lot of color to my campaign.

The edition is very beautiful. Hard cover with cloth, thick paper and full color pages. The layout is very simple, minimalist and practical. The usefulness of the book...mmmm...if you plan to play a campaign or adventure with psychedelic touches in a world full of mushrooms, it's all you need to fill it with color

A Book Like No Other

This entire book is a work of love and art. Who would have thought that fungi could be so captivating? The pages have to be opened and this fantastic realm of imagination has to be entered for it to be fully appreciated. I wasn’t completely sure whether this was a book for me. I didn’t need to worry. The book is absolute quality - cloth cover, stitched binding, thick paper. It is utterly convincing. Yes, it’s inspiration for table top role playing games - any system - but it’s so much more. It will inspire you and delight you. I urge you to get a copy because it’s a book like no other.

Gorgeous, fun book

Great quality hardcover and beautiful glossy pages. The art is fantastic and the ability to call up fungi at random in my games is fun for my players and for myself.

Magical Charm

As a mycologist who loves D&D, this is a magically charming book! The stories of each species are creative and appropriately whimsical or spooky. I was impressed by some correct usage of Mycological terms.

My only small complaint is that the book repeatedly refers to the structures on some mushrooms called “volvas” as “vulvas” 😅 Definitely not the same thing! But that’s a minor gripe from a trained scientist.

Lovely illustrations, feels like being in another world when you can flip through a field guide like this one.
